Current Playground Problems

In September 2007, the respected Injury Prevention and Research Center at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, conducted a safety inspection on the playground at Eugene Field Park.

Several Features Did Not Meet Safety Requirements

  •   Unstable and Unsafe Slides
  •   Exposed Bolts
  •   Concrete blocks visible under the wood chips
  •   Insufficient level of ground covering
  •   Equipment not age appropriate for young children

Our playlot is overcrowded and outdated. In addition, our current “water feature” runs continuously 24 hours a day throughout the summer and is a health hazard.

Why We Need Your Support:
Our goal is to raise $400,000 from government, corporate, and individual support, and to obtain matching funds from the Chicago Park District. We plan to fully renovate the playlot with new updated play equipment, incorporating the following:

  • Separate toddler and older kids play areas
  • Rubberized flooring
  • A safer, more efficient water play area
  • An improved basketball court
  • Layout and equipment that is accessible to children of all abilities
  • Environmentally friendly and sustainable materials
